The way I've learnt English and German

When I was about five years old, we moved to a new house. When we bought a new TV, there was a programme where you could watch cartoons.

The problem was that the cartoons were in German. At that age I didn't even know that Germany existed. I didn't understand absolutely anything. My mum tried to translate it into Croatian but it didn't work out. Then I just started to watch the cartoons in German because I didn't have a choice. As the time was passing by I could understand more and more words. Eventually I could understand everything. Learning English was a way easier than learning German. Words are longer in German and they are harder to pronounce. I've learnt English by watching movies and TV serials. When I was little I couldn't read the text on the screen so fast. So I didn't even try. That's why I've learnt English, too. When I started to go to school I would mix German and English. One time my English teacher asked us colours for a grade. She told me to say žuta in English. Instead of saying yellow I said gelb. When I started learning German at school, everyone was surprised that I knew everything. They started asking me:'' Are you German?'' and ''How do you know everything?'' I hate those questions. Everyone who found out that I knew German asked me that. So that's my story about the way I've learnt German and English.
